What's New? NCWMA Permit Info

NCWMA Permit Info

The 2025 riding season is here, and we’re excited for a great year ahead! It was wonderful to kick off our opening weekend with a campground full of good friends and loyal customers.

This year, the only significant change will be to the riding permit structure through the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). After two years of uncertainty, the new permit names and prices will take effect on July 1, 2025. We understand that the increase in prices has raised concerns among many, but instead of focusing on the negatives, we want to highlight the benefits that the new permit structure will bring.

Currently, OHV riders purchase hunting licenses to access the trails. Since these permits are categorized under “hunting,” the funds generated have not been directed back into the trail system for maintenance, improvements, or expansion. However, with the introduction of the North Cumberland OHV permits, those funds will be allocated specifically for the trail system management and restoration.

Here are some key points from TWRA regarding the changes:

- Funding for Restoration: The higher permit fees will provide additional revenue to the TWRA, allowing them to focus on repairing damaged trails, addressing erosion, and improving wildlife habitats that have been affected by increased OHV activity.

- Trail Management: With dedicated funding, the TWRA can manage existing OHV trails more effectively, including maintenance, signage, and the potential development of new designated routes to minimize impacts on sensitive areas.

The debate over permit increases has been lengthy and intense. While we may have mixed feelings about these changes and their effects on our customers and business, they are happening. There are many stakeholders involved in this process, and we are confident that individuals, groups, and businesses will be looking for updates and accountability regarding how the funds generated by the OHV community are used.

If everything proceeds as planned, we are optimistic that this amazing trail system will improve and become an even better place to ride.
